Mikko Kankkunen joined Big Data Solutions beginning of Dec 2017. Along with my colleagues, we have extensive experience from a variety of platforms, systems and business areas, he says. He continues, that the ingredients for a winning team are; good team spirit, the desire to help colleagues and to share information with others.
I think we all at BDS share the interest and ambition for modern ELT and BI technologies which is in the core of the company culture. I decided to join the BDS because I wanted to get to work with modern technologies and more agile tools in the field with the top notch players. I look forward to have an opportunity to grow professionally in challenging and inspiring projects.
Tuomas Nevanranta joined BDS in Jan 2018. In spite of modern communication tools, I think the winning team works together in the same space so that they can see each other and talk to each other while working – even if all the people in the team are highly skilled, the communication is a major factor for success. Secondly, the team needs to have a clear and common goal to work towards. These factors combined with the ability to understand the business and also the technologies and having a thrive to find best practices to solve problems and to enhance processes.
I joined the Big Data Solutions team because I knew that I would be working with highly skilled and motivated people in a flat and close-knit organization, he continues.
I would use a metaphor to describe what makes a winning team. The ones that steer the boat navigate and look ahead in order to anticipate needed course corrections, so the crew can concentrate to tending to their appointed tasks and cargo gets delivered safely as planned, says Ossi (Oz) Manninen who joined BDS beginning of November 2017. I think a winning team needs a common goal and that everybody is in sync with it. Open atmosphere in the workplace breeds creativity, which in turn helps to make an enthusiastic winning team. Strong words from Mr Oz.
Oskari Vuorinen joined Big Data Solutions after all the 2018 new year fireworks had been launched in to the Northern sky. He perceives that when a team has the tools and skills to do what is needed then it can truly produce value. I feel that the combination of environment and professionalism in Big Data Solutions enables me to do anything, only obstacle is my own imagination, he says. He continues, that experts with the same mindset together with agility and flexibility to work is a very productive combination.
I believe that BDS gives me what I need to enable myself to learn about everything I want from data management and analytics. Also when you are surrounded by colleagues who share your enthusiasm, learning is very fast and the atmosphere is self-feeding.
Tapani Dechy started his journey with BDS same day that Ossi did. Teamwork; sound like a worn out cliché but it’s true in my humble opinion. None of us is perfect and especially in this field the difference in experience and strengths might be quite diverse both with technology and with more “softer” aspects such as communication, empathy and personality types, Tapani states. You truly need good teamwork to knit all of these different aspects and strengths together and to bring out all of the combined and individual abilities, he continues
The right tools for the right team and the right business case and the ability to find this combination is crucial. This varies so much depending on the case at hand. It’s a question of listening to the customer needs and finding the right mix of technologies and knowhow to bring the most out of the solution being developed.
The ability to use modern development methodologies and frameworks. Being agile and fast without compromising the need for proper planning is always a difficult balance. Modern development frameworks such as SAFe, SCRUM and DevOps are nice buzzwords but what is sometimes forgotten is that these are just a collection of best practices and ideas. Pick what works for the case at hand and iterate if needed. But in my opinion you should also always remember the great old Finnish proverb “Hyvin suunniteltu on puoliksi tehty”(Well planned is halfway done.) Cannot disagree with Tapani – well said.
Asmo Pasanen, a senior what comes to his employmentship with BDS compared to the rest of the talented people mentioned in this post, enjoys getting new colleagues to share his passion for data and analytics. I think effective team work will me more crucial because diverse team helps solving problems more easily and quickly. As the population of the group and know-how of the individuals grows, teams can be optimized for specific situations, which raises the performance of the task and therefore customer satisfaction.
